Mrauk U, Myanmar -- The authority in Mrauk U has requested that the Abbot of Set Tha Wra Village sell the plot of land on which the monastery sits to the state after natural gas was discovered within the compound, said a monk from the monastery.

My comment on the article about why Buddhism did not develop in India, which I think it may open a wider window to see the real landscape, is this: Buddhism, as Jainism, etc was born from Hinduism as a way to "fight with no violence" to the ideas o f a structured hindu society by casts just by birth. The message of Buddha here is simply to tell people that you don't need to be born in the Brahman caste to dedicate to spiritual tasks.

Singapore's Chinatown to build 53 m dollar temple for Buddha's tooth relic by ANI, Jan 30, 2005
Singapore -- Singapore's Chinatown has activated plans to build a 53 million dollar Buddha Tooth Relic Temple on Sago Street, the construction of which will commence in March. According to a report in The Straits Times, the temple will house over 10,000 Buddha statues, including a six-metre tall Maitreya Buddha, as well as the Tripitaka, a collection of Buddhist scriptures. Its Buddha tooth relic will be kept in an over two metre tall dome-shaped 'stupa' made of gold.
